A shorter workout than some of the sessions I've been tackling over the past few weeks, but one with a little test tucked away in the middle.

The plan was:

1.5km warm-up at conversational pace

1km at 5:45/km

2km at 5:00/km

90 seconds walking recovery

1.5km cool-down at conversational pace

On paper, it looked very achievable. The main challenge was the 2km block at 5:00/km - a pace faster than my current 5K personal best. I knew that could feel pretty uncomfortable, particularly if I had to hold it for the full distance. As it turned out, it wasn't nearly as bad as I'd expected. I got through the session feeling good, and that faster block gave me a useful indication of where I am right now. A sub-25-minute 5K? I'd say I'm getting fairly close. It's not a guarantee, of course. Holding that pace for 2km is one thing; maintaining it for the full 5km is another. But it's encouraging to see that the pace is becoming more manageable, and it gives me something to potentially aim for once Beachy Head is out of the way.

The session today was helped enormously by the conditions. The beautiful sunrise was back, the temperature had dropped to something much more appropriate for the time of year, and there was little to no wind. After all the recent battles with humidity and headwinds, it was a pleasure to get out and run without feeling as though the weather was conspiring against me.

Beachy Head Half Marathon 2026 Training Block - Week 10/11 After two rest days, it was time to get back to it this morning with another tempo session.
