Between 2016 and 2022 I attended almost every EFC mens cadet epee competition. In the days before we had dedicated Facebook and WhatsApp groups available to us, it was hard to find any information on these competitions – apart from what might have appeared on the eurofencing website. Over the 6 years (more like 5 really as Covid paused things for 1 year), I picked up a lot of useful information which may be of interest to you.
If you’re planning on attending any of these competions and have any questions or concerns, please do drop a comment below or contact me directly and I’ll happily try and help.
EFC Cadet Circuit Competitions
EFC Budapest – Budapest Cup
The first EFC cadet event that we ever went to and in my opinion, this is by far and away the best of them all.
EFC Geneve
The standard was very high with most of the entries coming from France, Italy and Switzerland.
EFC Thessaloniki
One of the smaller competitions on the calendar, but one I’d definitely recommend to anyone looking to get some more International experience.
EFC Copenhagen
What can I say about this event – it’s all round one of the best competitions you could wish to attend.
EFC Belgrade – Belgrade Open
In 2021 the Belgrade Fair hosted the event – a large complex of event halls next to the Sava river on the outskirts of the city.
EFC Luxembourg
Back in 2017 this event was a dry run for Luxembourg to host a FIE Junior World Cup.
EFC Krakow – Wawel Dragon Trophy
Normally taking place towards the end of the cadet season, this event attracts a good number of fencers and is definitely worth a visit.
EFC Bratislava – Coupe du Danube
The colossus of all the EFC cadet events – expect all the top fencers from around the world to be attending this competion. Generally considered to be the toughest event on the circuit.
EFC Bonn – Tank und Rast Pokal
I’d probably rank it as the worst organisationally that we went to over the years.
EFC Klagenfurt – Trofeo Dario Codarin
Klagenfurt is a picturesque city and the competition venue ranks among the best of the best.
EFC Grenoble – Challenge Mondial
A great competition with a good number of entries and high standard of fencing – just prepare for any eventuality and a small amount of chaos.
EFC Espoo – Espoo Fencing Challenge
One of the smaller competitions but also one of the best.
FIE Junior World Cups
Coupe du Monde Basel – Trophée de Bâle
Located right on the France and Switzerland border and only a short journey from EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg.
Alpe Adria – Udine Junior World Cup
As Junior World Cup events go, this has to be one of the best, if not the best in my opinion.
