October Weather, Apparently

Beachy Head Half Marathon 2026 Training Block - Week 10/11

Today's run was about as unremarkable as they come. A standard 9km easy run, around a very familiar route, with nothing particularly exciting to report. Except, of course, for the weather. 17°C and 90% humidity at 7am in October. I'm not entirely sure autumn has received the memo that it's supposed to be getting cooler by now. After a recent spell of more comfortable running conditions, this morning felt distinctly unpleasant, to say the least.

With no particular pace target to chase, I decided the best way to approach the run was to concentrate on keeping my heart rate firmly in Zone 2. That's sometimes easier said than done when the air feels so oppressive and your body has to work harder just to maintain a comfortable effort. Still, target achieved. I kept things controlled, resisted the temptation to worry too much about pace, and ticked off the 9km as planned.

Next up is Saturday morning's parkrun. With both of my local events cancelled this weekend, it'll be an opportunity to venture a little further afield and try somewhere different. A bit of parkrun tourism should be a nice change from the usual routine, so that's something to look forward to.
