Back To The Club
Beachy Head Half Marathon 2026 Training Block - Week 9/11
After a much-needed rest day, it was back to running this evening - and, for the first time in a while, back to a club session. I haven’t made it along to many recently, mainly because of where they’ve been starting. Now that they’re back on the seafront, I can actually get there on time after work, so I’m hoping there’ll be a lot more of these over the autumn and winter.
Tonight’s session was split into two parts. The first was three repetitions of 1km fast, followed by 60 seconds of static recovery. After that came three rounds of over/unders - or fartleks - around a loop of roughly 750 metres, mixing the faster and slower sections together. I messed up my lap button presses for the 3rd 1km of the first session so the pace analysis looks a bit strange!

The session went well. I felt strong throughout, which was particularly encouraging after the tougher sessions last week and the long run at the weekend. There were no lingering aches or problems, and everything seemed to be moving as it should.
The one thing that does seem to be sticking around is the humidity. It felt high again tonight, and even with the evening temperature dropping, it still made the harder efforts feel a little more demanding than they otherwise might have been.

I also took the opportunity to run a bit extra before and after the session to bump up the mileage. Today was actually supposed to be an 8km easy run, but I wanted to get back to the club, so the easy run will just have to wait for another day. Not a bad trade-off. A good quality session, a bit of extra mileage and, perhaps most importantly, it was nice to be back running with the club again.
