Listening to the Legs
North Downs Ridge 50k Training Block - Week 2/17
Another day of going against the training plan, but sometimes you just have to be sensible and do what feels right on the day. Today's suggestion was a tempo run, but with the left foot still under observation, I really didn't want to risk aggravating anything. So the tempo session was shelved in favour of another easy run.
The plan was to get somewhere around 10km or an hour on my feet, keeping everything gentle. Recovery time was relatively short following last night's Worthing Striders club session, so there was little to be gained from pushing the pace today.

Today's destination was Brooklands Park, taking a loop around the lake before heading back along the seafront towards Worthing. It's always a pleasant route, although the headwind on the return leg can be pretty brutal at times. Today was no exception, but with no pace targets to worry about, it was simply a case of keeping things comfortable and enjoying the miles.
The run went exactly as I'd hoped. I actually ended up going a little quicker than originally planned, but the important thing was that my heart rate stayed nicely under control. 87% of the run was spent in Zone 1 or Zone 2, which is a pretty good result for an easy endurance session.
Mission accomplished. A trouble-free run, no obvious issues with the foot and another bit of useful mileage in the bank.
