Issue 11 – Ravescene

Ravescene Magazeen #11 (Mar ’92) goes underground with Spiral Tribe, pioneers of free hardcore techno raves for up to 15,000 ravers. Also packed with UK and international rave listings, from Ravescene Party III to Storm Rave and Future — Rockin’ the Boat 92 with no rules, just music.

FEATURED ARTICLE – Spiral Tribe

Spiral Tribe have been around for a while organizing free raves up and down the country, often at the festivals. They don’t promote their events at all, but have managed to pull up to 15,000 ravers at a time. The music’s hardcore techno all the way, and only stops when every one has gone home, on average 72 hours after the start. Spiral Tribe live by the ‘ Terra-Technic’, in synch with the pulse of the planet and the Universe. Their message is in the music, the music of the future, the music with a hard cutting edge. The costs are met by people giving their time and talents freely, anonymously. Just enough is made by passing the hat and selling refreshments, Any money over is turned into music, via The Spiral Tribe label.

Think of dancing in a field, under the stars, grass underfoot and no organisers, no security, no attitude, just thousands of like-minded people under the influence of the music, the strobes and the smoke.

The Roundhouse, The Old School House, Camberwell bus garage and Amsterdam are now in the past. The future holds Sound System City, the gathering of the Tribes for the Summer Solstice, and an event somewhere, somehow, every weekend.

Issue 9 – Ravescene

Ravescene Magazeen #9 (Feb ’92) features DJ Seduction on breaking through with “Hardcore Heaven” and his rise from the Dungeons to the national charts. Packed with rave listings for Showtime ’92, Living Dream, and Euphoria, this issue keeps it Safe as House and full of hardcore spirit.

FEATURED ARTICLE – SEDUCTION

Seduction is one of the lucky few to whom mixing came easily. He started playing about 4 years ago and was a regular at Dungeons in the early days. He is currently with the same stable as Carl Cox and Top Buzz and his track ‘Hardcore Heaven’ on ffrr has reached No. 26 in the national charts. This track has been around for some time on white label and was purchased by many, who knew it as ‘Here it Comes’. We asked Seduction where his future direction lay.

RS: Do you intend to carry on DJing?

S: Definately — and where possible to combine it with PA’s. I should have the new track out in six weeks and will be doing my first PA at Elevation on March 7th. I spent six months in Miami last year, where the scene was very commercial house, but it is possible that I may go back again, and to Tenerife, this year.

RS: Are you likely to be playing any garage?

S: No. Garage is fine to play at home, but not out. You can’t rave to garage.

RS: Is it harder now for young DJ’s to get started ?

S: Yes, as there are so many good DJ’s about and the promoters in many cases seem to have distanced themselves from the ravers. The competition is so intense that they are more concerned with the pulling power than the standard of the playing.
